As I write this, it is election day in America. As you read this, it is probably the day after. No matter the day, our call is the same.
Regardless of the outcomes, county by county, state by state, candidate by candidate, initiative by initiative, referenda by referenda, our call is the same.
Whether our candidates won or lost, the measures landed as we’d hoped or not, our call is the same.
Whether our team claims victory or defeat, our call is the same.
Whether the outcomes of the election are swift or slow in coming, our call is the same.
Whether it lands on our ears as good news or bad, our call is the same.
It is a call to turn away from our screens and turn towards each other.
It’s a call to stop spewing hate and start spawning love.
Its a call to stop fueling the flames of fear and start fanning the sparks of courage.
It is a collective call to We the People to show up, do our part, and do our best to bring our best to our every endeavor, as we strive to form a more perfect union.
A few words of caution:
To any of those of us who believe we know exactly what is best for this beautiful and broken country of ours, we don’t.
To any of us who are enraged, it doesn’t mean we are right.
And…
To any of us who feel hopeless, it doesn’t mean that all is lost.
The only way to climb out of the hateful and divisive pit in which we find ourselves, and inch our way toward that more perfect union, is to do it together. We may never get there, but we can always get closer. And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
